This was cool.
Here is my 83 year old client showing his before and after apleys scratch test. Top pics are the Before’s and bottom pics are the After. Notice a difference? I do.
Did we do a bunch of stretches and active release? Not in the way you would probably think...
All I had him do was BREATHE using a few specific positions in order to get some chest wall expansion and give him a little more space to be able to internally rotate that shoulder.
Started with a left side lying position With right arm reaching up and abducting ( pulling away from him) while he breathed there working on full inhales through the nose and long full exhales through the mouth trying to get ALL the air out.
Then we hit some supine breathing with a neutral reach up to the ceiling with his arms. Focus was on breathing into his sides and reaching higher as he exhaled fully.
Retested and it was better!
Spoiler..... he won’t wake up with this same range unless we continue to work on the underlying issues that got him there BUT doing these drills before we start his training for the day gives us a little more room to work with and relaxes some of that compression.
